The lead role of Jean Valjean is being played for the first time by an African American performer. The chosen actor, Lawrence Clayton, had this to say on his selection: “The entire production has been reconceived and I think people are going to fall in love with the show all over again,” he further added, “I begin the show as a broken man; a man whose lost his faith.“ Les Miserables theatre” opened in London on Oct. 8, 1986 at the Barbican Theater and moved to the Palace theatre, then to the Queens Theatre.
